Summary
Prologue:
The summoner is enraged by the Friar's tale, and insists that he is lying. He explains the story about when a Friar is sent to Hell in a vision and sees millions of other Friars living in the Devil's butt.
Tale:
One day, a Friar heads to a house owned by a dying, sick man named Thomas. After greeting Thomas's wife in a sexual way, the Friar begs for donations and charity from the man. The two have clearly had problems and are struggling. The Friar tells Thomas and his wife that he foresaw all the misfortunes and promises that if they give him money they will have salvation. Thomas catches on to this and tells the Friar that he is sitting on something for the Friar that he must share with the other Friars. As the Friar reaches around Thomas's buttocks, Thomas lets out a large fart. The Friar leaves the house and is furious. He complains to the lord of the village about his embarrassment. The Friar did not know how to split a fart into twelve equal parts.
