Who is the summoner?
The summoner is a lower- class citizen whose job it is to bring those who violate Church law to the ecclesiastical court. He is a lecherous man and is often drunk, irritable, and is not very qualified for his job. His face is red, it is scarred by leprosy. He, also, speaks in Latin to attempt to sound smart to others.
Chaucer's opinion of the summoner?
He sees him as inferior to himself, he believes that the summoner is a nice guy with appearence and drinking problems. Despite his flaws, Chaucer believes he is a generous man.
